Full-Stack Developer (BBj / .NET / PHP)

Hybrid – Lisbon or Remote (Portugal-based)

We are hiring a versatile Full-Stack Developer with experience in BBj (Business BASIC on Java), .NET, and PHP to support the evolution of a complex business application used by a market-leading international company.

This role involves working on a mission-critical software suite, originally built using BBj, now transitioning to modern technologies. You’ll contribute to maintaining, optimizing, and progressively re-architecting the system using contemporary frameworks.

What you’ll do:

  • Maintain and extend a BBj-based business application running on the JVM.
  • Build and refactor backend components using .NET (C#) and PHP, ensuring scalability and clean integration.
  • Support migration efforts toward newer architectures (e.g. .NET Core, REST APIs).
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including DevOps, QA, and product owners.
  • Write clean, well-documented code and participate in code reviews.
  • Assist with debugging, performance tuning, and legacy modernization.

What we’re looking for:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with BBj / Business BASIC (or strong interest in working with legacy platforms).
  • Solid experience with .NET / C# backend development.
  • Strong proficiency in PHP for legacy components or microservices.
  • Familiarity with SQL databases and integration patterns (e.g. APIs, messaging).
  • Experience working in Agile environments.
  • Problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Based in Portugal or open to relocation.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with system modernization or migrations.
  • Familiarity with Java-based environments (BBj runs on JVM).
  • Knowledge of accounting, ERP, or finance systems.
