BACK-END DEVELOPER

Luxury Fashion Digital Platform (Stealth-Mode)

Location: Remote / Lisbon

Contract: Part-Time or Full-Time

ABOUT THE COMPANY

A next-generation luxury fashion platform is undergoing a 15-week build phase to launch a premium, editorial-driven e-commerce experience. The model combines brand partnerships, curated product flows, pre-order runway capsules, and a no-stock operational framework. The team is now expanding its technical backbone with a seasoned Back-End Developer to support systems architecture, integrations, and scalable platform logic.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Back-End Developer will own the server-side architecture powering the platform. This includes API integrations with luxury brand partners, Shopify backend extensibility, data pipelines for product and order flows, and consistent optimisation of system performance. The role works directly with the technical lead, front-end teams, and external development partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Back-End Development & Systems Architecture

  • Build and optimise server-side logic, APIs, microservices, and application infrastructure.
  • Ensure system scalability, security, and fault-tolerance.
  • Collaborate with front-end developers to achieve seamless data flow across all platform layers.

2. API Integrations with Brand Partners

  • Develop integrations covering:
  • Product catalogues
  • Inventory/availability feeds
  • Pricing updates
  • Digital asset ingestion
  • Order notifications
  • Build modular, reusable integration frameworks for onboarding new luxury brands at scale.

3. Shopify Backend Engineering

  • Work with the Shopify Admin API, Storefront API, webhooks, Liquid, and automation scripts.
  • Develop or modify Shopify extensions and backend logic to support curated product flows and editorial modules.
  • Implement platform features such as trunk show logic and custom content-driven product experiences.

4. Orders, Returns & Logistics Systems

  • Develop backend workflows for order management, returns processing, and logistics handling.
  • Integrate with shipment partners and third-party fulfillment systems.
  • Automate notifications, order status updates, and inventory adjustments.

5. Repository & Code Quality

  • Contribute within a GitHub environment following best practices.
  • Produce clean, documented, maintainable code.
  • Participate in code reviews, pull requests, and CI/CD processes.

6. Database & Data Pipeline Management

  • Build and maintain pipelines for:
  • Product ingestion
  • Inventory updates
  • Price mapping
  • Order lifecycle data
  • Safeguard data accuracy, consistency, and performance across the architecture.

7. Performance, Security & Reliability

  • Monitor backend performance and resolve system bottlenecks.
  • Apply best practices in security, compliance, and high-availability standards aligned with premium e-commerce expectations.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Proven background as a Back-End Developer within e-commerce, marketplace, or API-heavy environments.
  • Strong expertise in at least one backend language: Node.js, Python, Ruby, or PHP.
  • Solid experience designing and consuming REST and/or GraphQL APIs.
  • Hands-on Shopify backend experience (Shopify API, Liquid, automation workflows) — strong advantage.
  • Proficiency with GitHub and collaborative development workflows.
  • Experience with order/returns systems, logistics/ERP integrations, or similar backend operations.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or equivalent).
  • Strong debugging, optimisation, and architectural problem-solving abilities.

NICE-TO-HAVE

  • Experience in fashion tech, luxury retail, or editorial commerce.
  • Exposure to headless Shopify builds.
  • Knowledge of automated testing frameworks.
  • Experience with digital asset ingestion or large-scale product datasets.
